The aspens were still gold when Sarah and James got married. One week later, they'd all be gone. Timing, as it turns out, is everything.
Sarah found me through Instagram — a post I'd made about light at altitude. She said she'd been following me for two years before her engagement, which meant she already knew what kind of photos she'd get. That made everything easier.
James cried before she even reached him. He told me later he heard the music change and that was it. I was already raising my camera.
We had two hours of golden light before the sun dropped behind the mountain. Two hours is either plenty or not enough, depending on the day. This was plenty. The light was so warm it felt like the mountain was showing off.
The reception went until midnight. The dancing was genuine — no choreography, no performance, just people who were genuinely happy. Those are my favourite receptions to photograph.
